Visiting the city of Bruges
Bruges has been called the most beautiful city of Belgium, the very center of tourism. The entire inner city is acknowledged as a world inheritance. It's certainly worth a visit. The city has a treasury of monuments, art and history. In this medieval city it's a pleasure to stroll along the countless historical buildings, the picturesque market places and canals. Starting from the hostel you can take a magnificent walk along the canals to the centre of town. Alternatively, every 10 minutes there's a bus leaving 50 m from our door headed for town centre.
Tourism aroung Bruges : daytrip to Damme
Aside of tourism in the Bruges city center, a daytrip to Damme is highly recommended. A boat headed for Damme leaves 500 m from Arthostel. It makes a lovely journey along the Brugge-Sluis canal, the 'Damse vaart' bringing you to the picturesque village of Damme . Damme, the former fore-harbour of Bruges maintains diverse medieval buildings and museums. Damme is also a 'book village' for the collectors and boasts many cafes and restaurants as well. Damme is located in the middle of a beautiful nature and recreation area where you can find many marked bike and walking routes.
A visit to Sluis
A visit to Sluis ( Holland ), historic and full of atmosphere, is an option as it' s located just over the border. Here you have the option of taking the bus ( bus stop 50 m from the Arthostel) or a bicycle. The round trip is approximately a 25 km ride through beautiful countryside along the ' Damse vaart' passing numerous sunny terraces where you can relax and enjoy one of Belgian many regional beers.
Tourism at the seaside: Knokke-Heist.
Or do you prefer the seaside? Leaving 50 m from the hostel, a bus will take you to Knokke in 20 minutes time. Knokke- Heist is an exclusive, pretty seaside town with 12 km of white sand beaches and dunes. Nature lovers can enjoy the bird sanctuary ' Het Zwin'.
Visiting Zeebrugge
Another alternative is to visit Zeebrugge. A guided tour of the harbour or a gorgeous walk along the beach and dunes to Blankenberge can all be arranged.
Tourism in Belgium : visit other historical towns
Still have a few more days to enjoy Belgium ? You can easily arrange daytrips to other historical cities in Flanders. Brussels, Antwerp and Gent are easily reached by train from Bruges in one hour or less. Or how about a visit to the famous war museum in Ieper ' In Flanders Field'.
